We're 'falling into Third grade
Where has September gone? It seems as if it were just the first week of school and here we are...in October! Children have been working hard on getting into a third grade routine. We're almost there!
We have started unit two in science. We will be learning about the design process and how/why things work and make our lives easier.
In Social Studies our class has learned about different types of maps and we will be learning about the five regions in the United States. At the end of this subsection, we will be working on a state your child has picked, to present a few things about the state to our classmates. We will be using the chrome books a lot for this project, but the kids will love it as we will start to learn how to research topics, color and draw. They always have so much fun in this unit!
Each child has been assigned a bi-weekly 'goal' for our accelerated reader program. They may not get homework every night, but they WILL be expected to read each night for twenty-five minutes. As the year progresses, they will need to read thirty minutes each night as their goal will also increase. We have no spelling words/list this week simply due to MAP testing, field trip and Bishop's Mass. We quiz on Wednesdays and if they get 100 percent they get a free pass on Friday's final test.
We are almost finished with our data unit in math. We will take our test on Friday. Our class has enjoyed making bar graphs (vertical and horizontal), as well as picture graphs. We're going to look at line plots and be ready for our next unit...multiplication!
We have snack twice a day. It is important that your child comes with at least one snack a day. The morning snack is very important as we do a lot of things in the morning and need that brain food!
