We're 'falling' into Third grade
We are 'skipping' a few units in Science to talk about the Earth an the moon. After that we will talk about weather and water. Don't worry, we will talk about the other units we temporarily bypassed, it's just that these two units can get just about completed before Thanksgiving break and sort of 'stand alone.'
In Social Studies our class finished learning about the five regions of the United States. Each child had a state they did a research project on and presented to the class. They all did a fantastic job with this!
Each child has been assigned a bi-weekly 'goal' for our accelerated reader program. They may not get homework every night, but they WILL be expected to read each night for twenty-five minutes. As the year progresses, they will need to read thirty minutes each night as their goal will also increase. We have no spelling words/list this week simply due to MAP testing, field trip and Bishop's Mass. We quiz on Wednesdays and if they get 100 percent they get a free pass on Friday's final test.
We have started our first multiplication unit. Right now we are focused on repeated addition skills, and will eventually move into number sentences for multiplication. We are almost done with our addition math facts and will be moving on to subtraction math facts in the middle of November by the latest. I have seen a huge improvement on rote recognition skills with addition, and hopefully you have seen this at home too!
Our art days and times have been spent working with the eighth grade class on a big group project. We're almost done, and can't wait to see how it all turns out!
We have snack twice a day. It is important that your child comes with at least one snack a day. The morning snack is very important as we do a lot of things in the morning and need that brain food!
